When the Wind Blows

Remember when you were a kid, pulling silly faces and your mum would say "If the wind changes direction, your face will stay that way!" ? Well, she was right - the wind can be deadly. Ironically, Pripyat was lucky in it escaped a direct sphere of radiation. A narrow band just on the outskirts was particularly gamma ray rich in where the wind direction caused it to setle.  Here it registers 1.461 R which is approximately two hundred times the usual levels of a normal environment.

Ferris Wheel

Due to open just one week after the accident, the Children's Funfair never fulfilled its designated purpose. Here, the ferris wheel lies forlornly still, never to have revolved once.

All the Fun of the Fair

In London, I have the Millennium Wheel. Like a lot of other sights in London, I suffer from tourist-at-home apathy and have never been on it, but now when I spot it, I'll be transported back here and think myself lucky.

Dodge City

Here the dodgems are particulary hazardous, not because there's a slightly unkempt man leaping in between them screaming "Watch the ride!", but due to the amount of wood contained within the cars. It acts like a sponge soaking up and retaining the radiation.
